Types of Sentences (based on structure)

ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਦੀ ਬਣਤਰ ਦੇ ਅਧਾਰ ਉੱਤੇ, ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ 3 ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੰਡਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

     1. Compound Sentences (ਕੰਪਾਊਂਡ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸਸ)

ਕੰਪਾਊਂਡ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਘੱਟੋ ਘੱਟ ਦੋ ਇੰਡੀਪੈਂਡੈਂਟ ਕਲੌਸਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਬਣੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੰਪਾਊਂਡ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਣ ਲਈ ਕੋ-ਔਰਡੀਨੇਟਿੰਗ ਕੰਜਨਕਸ਼ਨਸ (coordinating conjunctions) ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਉਦਾਹਰਣ

       • They got there early. They got really good seats.
       • They got there early, and they got really good seats.

     2. Complex Sentences (ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸਸ)

ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਇੰਡੀਪੈਂਡੈਂਟ ਕਲੌਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਜਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਡਿਪੈਂਡੈਂਟ ਕਲੌਸ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੋੜਣ ਲਈ ਸਬ-ਔਰਡੀਨੇਟਿੰਗ ਕੰਜਨਕਸ਼ਨਸ (subordinating conjunctions) ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਉਦਾਹਰਣ 

       • I went to the gym. I was out of shape.
       • I went to the gym because I was out of shape.

     3. Compound-Complex Sentences (ਕੰਪਾਊਂਡ-ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸਸ)

ਕੰਪਾਊਂਡ-ਕੰਪਲੈਕਸ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਸੈਨਟੈਂਸ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੋ ਇੰਡੀਪੈਂਡੈਂਟ ਕਲੌਸ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਘੱਟੋ ਘੱਟ ਇੱਕ ਡਿਪੈਂਡੈਂਟ ਕਲੌਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੋ-ਔਰਡੀਨੇਟਿੰਗ ਕੰਜਨਕਸ਼ਨਸ (coordinating conjunctions), ਕੋ-ਰੈਲੇਟਿਵ ਕੰਜਨਕਸ਼ਨਸ (correlative conjunctions), ਕੰਜਨਕਟਿਵ ਐਡਵਰਬਸ (conjunctive adverbs), ਜਾਂ ਸੈਮੀ-ਕੋਲੋਨ (semicolons) ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

ਉਦਾਹਰਣ 

       • Because I love to read, I like to visit the library, and I enjoy going to book stores, too. (coordinating conjunction)
       • Because I love to read, not only do I like to visit the library, but I also enjoy going to book stores, too. (correlative conjunction)
       • Because I love to read, I like to visit the library; additionally, I enjoy going to book stores. (conjunctive adverb)
       • Because I love to read, I like to visit the library; I enjoy going to book stores, too. (semicolon)
